This Symposium is the ninth in the series of meetings held previously at Studsvik, Sweden (1969), Petten, The Netherlands (1974), Brookhaven, USA (1978), Grenoble, France (1981), Knoxville, USA (1984), Leuven, Belgium (1987), Asilomar, USA (1990), and Fribourg, Switzerland (1993). As a follow-up event, the IAEA Advisory Group Meeting on the Co-ordination of the Nuclear Structure and Decay Data Evaluators Network will be held at the Institute of Isotopes between 14-18 October 1996. SCOPE ----- The Symposium program will continue the general themes of the earlier conferences, with special emphasis on nuclear data and applications related to capture reactions and gamma-ray spectroscopy. Topics to be discussed during the symposium will be arranged into eight major sessions as described in the FIRST BULLETIN. We expect the attendance of 150 to 200 participants. The list of those who have already sent back the PRE-REGISTRATION FORM is posted on the Symposiums World Wide Web home page. You are kindly requested to check if your name is there. Since almost everyone has provided an e-mail address, a hardcopy version of this bulletin will be sent to only those few who have no e-mail access. FORMAT ------ The program of this five-day Symposium will include invited talks and contributed papers, presented orally or in a poster form. Parallel sessions will be avoided as much as possible. The oral sessions will be organised in the mornings and evenings where invited talks and selected contributed talks will be delivered. Two topical poster sessions will be held in parallel each afternoon, except excursion day. All posters will remain on display during the entire Symposium. Demonstrations of nuclear data software and network services are also planned. All committee members are expected to recommend invited speakers. Acceptance of submitted contributions and their form of presentation (oral/poster, time) will be decided upon by a secret ballot, mainly on the basis of recommendations from PROGRAM COMMITTEE members. To facilitate this process, submitted abstracts will be forwarded to them promptly by the organisers. The program will be finalised by the ADVISORY COMMITTEE at its meeting in April 1996 and the participants will be notified about its decisions during May 1996. Simultaneously, there will be a call for Registration Fee and hotel reservation. The final program will be displayed on the WWW homepage and will be distributed by mail as well. Abstracts of those who permit will also be displayed on WWW, but only after the final program is approved. The booklet of Abstracts will be printed, and distributed on arrival as usual. All accepted papers will be published in the Proceedings, prepared from camera-ready copies to be submitted by 1 August 1996. Instructions for authors will be given in due time. ABSTRACTS --------- You are invited to submit one-page Abstracts for oral or poster contributions. Please, indicate your preference concerning sessions and the way of presentation. The organisers kindly ask your approval for posting your Abstract on World Wide Web after the final program is announced on 1 June 1996. The deadline for the submission of Abstracts is strictly 1 April 1996. We strongly prefer to receive Abstracts via e- mail, in the form of an ASCII file. The simplest way to submit an Abstract is to use the template provided on WWW. If you have no access to WWW, just type in the TITLE in capital letters, followed by the initials and surnames of the authors as well as their addresses, both lower case and in a separate line. The body of the text should be separated from this header by an empty line. Please, put an asterisk (*) right after the name of the co-author intended to present the paper. If your text contains special characters you are encouraged to send us also a hardcopy via telefax or regular mail to facilitate final editing. Those who have no access to e-mail at all may restrict themselves to telefax or regular mail, of course. FURTHER INFORMATION ------------------- Further correspondence is planned to be conducted via e-mail as much as possible. The pre-registered participants will continuously be kept informed via World Wide Web. On request detailed information will be sent by e-mail to those who have no access to WWW but specify their e-mail address, e.g., on the PRE-REGISTRATION FORM attached to the FIRST BULLETIN. The Symposium's Bulletin Board is on the World-Wide-Web homepag= e http://www.iki.kfki.hu/nuclear/cgs9.html. **************************************************************** DEADLINES Pre-registration 1 January 1996 Abstracts 1 April 1996 Final program announced 1 June 1996 Final registration (reduced fee) 1 July 1996 Hotel reservation 1 July 1996 Camera-ready manuscripts 1 August 1996 **************************************************************** Budapest, November 1995 ADVISORY COMMITTEE: ------------------ H.
