Among the topics to be covered at the conference are: Materials Research with Neutrons (Neutron diffraction and inelastic scattering, residual stress analysis, neutron reflectrometry and small angle scattering, neutron depth profiling) Nuclear Research with Neutrons (Neutron capture gamma-ray spectroscopy, ultra cold neutron research, fundamental symmetry violations) Neutron Dosimetry (Neutron exposure at civil flight levels, nuclear industry monitoring requirements, individual neutron dosimeters, neutron field calculations, dosimetry for radiation therapy) Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (Primary neutron sources, biological effects, neutron beam profiles, dose components) Neutron Detection (4pi detectors, plastic, liquid, 3He, 4He detectors, neutron calorimetry) Neutron Production (Pulsed neutron sources, sealed tube neutron generators, LINAC and cyclotron-based neutron production, reactor neutron sources, monoenergetic neutron sources, radioactive sources) Non-Intrusive non-destructive testing (Neutron radiography, neutron tomography, detection of hidden explosives, search for illicit drugs, chemical weapons verification, nuclear waste assay methodology, on-line industrial analysis) Neutron transport calculations (Monte Carlo methods, discrete ordinate methods, cross section libraries, benchmark experiments) Signal processing and data reduction (Digital signal processing, flash ADCs, detector response functions, n-gamma discrimination) ABSTRACTS --------- Please submit your abstract (by mail, E-Mail or Fax)of 200 words or less, in English, by November 30, 1995. The subject of the abstract should be neutron related but it is not limited to the topics listed above. Authors will be notified of their paper's acceptance by January 10, 1996. The authors of the accepted papers will be invited to give a 15 min presentation of their work, followed by a 5 min discussion. SEND ABSTRACTS TO: George Vourvopoulos Dept. of Physics, Western Kentucky Univ., Bowling Green, KY 42101 Tel: (502) 745-5277, Fax: (502) 745-5062, E-Mail: VOUR@WKUVX1.WKU.EDU CONFERENCE SITE --------------- The conference will take place at the Kalimera Kriti Hotel and Village Resort, located 40 km east of Heraklio,Crete. Heraklio is served by numerous direct charter flights from various cities of Western Europe, by several daily flights from Athens (30 min flight time), and several boats from Piraeus (the port of Athens). The boats depart at 8 p.m. daily and arrive at 6 a.m. at Heraklio. Escorted bus transportation between the Heraklio airport, Heraklio port and the Kalimera Kriti hotel (on June 8 and 9) and return on June 15 will be provided by the conference. FINANCIAL AID ------------- Limited funds for financial aid are available through the generosity of our industrial sponsors. We will be able to cover the local expenses of some young scientists or of scientists from countries with limited convertible currency. For assistance, please contact directly either conference chairman. All applications will be evaluated and awards will be made based on funds availability. EXPENSES -------- The conference registration fee is $460 ($520 if paid after April 15, 1996) and includes the conference proceedings (to be published as a separate volume). The registration fee must be paid directly to the conference organization by bank transfer or check drawn on a US bank. Details will be given in the next bulletin. All conference activities and social events will take place at the Kalimera Kriti. Under special arrangement, the rate at Kalimera Kriti (a 5 star hotel) is $130/night/person for two persons sharing a suite, and $165/night for single occupancy. The price includes full breakfast and dinner (especially arranged for the conference participants) as well as the gala dinner. Children between the ages of 2 and 12 pay $65/night when sharing a room with their parents. For participants arriving before June 9, or staying after June 15, the hotel price is $115/per night/person for two persons sharing a suite, and $150/night for single occupancy. The rate is lower because there are no special dinners/activities included. The hotel accepts all major credit cards, and all major convertible currencies. Direct payment can also be made through bank transfer. Further information will be given in the next bulletin. Those wishing to stay in other hotels or pensions on the island may do so, by arranging, however, their own accommodations and transportation to the conference. Participation at the gala dinner and all other activities organized through the hotel and included in the above mentioned hotel price must be paid separately at the following prices: Gala dinner $70.00, Greek night $45.00, Barbeque night $45.00 The conference organizers will have a staffed desk at Kalimera Kriti to assist the participants, free of charge, with their travel arrangements or other tourist plans after the conference. Please note that the conference starts with a reception and dinner on Sunday evening June 9. The gala dinner is on Friday, June 14. We strongly recommend that you participate in the full week-long program of activities and depart on Saturday, June 15. ACCOMPANYING PERSONS -------------------- There will be an accompanying persons program that includes two full-day excursions, several activities at the Kalimera Kriti, and various walks and visits in the surrounding areas. The fee for this program is $140, and includes transportation to and from the airport. For those that do not wish to participate in the whole program but wish to purchase some of the individual activities (including transportation), a break down of the charges is as follows: Escorted transportation from-and to the airport (port) $25.00 Excursion to Gortys-Phaestos-Matala $42.00 Excursion "the other side of Crete" * $80.00 *this is a conference excursion included in the conference fee for the conference participants ******************************************************************* DEADLINES AND IMPORTANT DATES November 30, 1995 Abstract Deadline January 10, 1996 Notification of Authors March 31, 1996 Hotel Registration Deadline April 15, 1996 Conference Registration Fee Deadline June 9, 1996 Conference Registration, Reception, Dinner June 10-14, 1996 Conference June 15,1996 Depart after Breakfast ******************************************************************* If interested in receiving further conference bulletins (list of invited speakers, payment details, etc.), please mail or FAX the attached form. ===== attached form ===== I want to remain in the mailing list: Name:_________________________________________________ Address:______________________________________________ ______________________________________________ ______________________________________________ Tel.:_______________________ FAX:_____________________________ E-Mail:____________________________ SEND TO: George Vourvopoulos Dept. of Physics, Western Kentucky Univ., Bowling Green, KY 42101 Tel: (502) 745-5277, Fax: (502) 745-5062, E-Mail: VOUR@WKUVX1.WKU.EDU
