International Conference on the Physics of Reactors PHYSOR96 ========= Breakthrough of Nuclear Energy by Reactor Physics September 16-20, 1996 Mito, Ibaraki, Japan Organized by Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute and Co-organized by Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation General Information ------------------- The International conference on the Physics of Reactors (PHYSOR96) will be held in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan during the week of September 16-20, 1996. The previous conference was held in Marseille, France in 1990. These meetings are involved in series of Topical Meeting on Advance in Reactor Physics held every other year in USA; in Charleston South Carolina (1992), Knoxville Tennessee (1994). The conference will provide an international technical forum for broad review of the currently most important fields of development in the physics of reactors. Papers are encouraged which present developments in computation methods, codes and applications to reactor analysis. Reporting of operation experiences of newly constructed facilities are also encouraged. The program will include studies of advanced reactor and fuel cycle design. Conference Organization ----------------------- General Chairman S. Matsuura JAERI Japan Program Chairman K. Nishina Nagoya Univ. Japan Sponsors Atomic Energy Society of Japan Reactor Physics Division of Atomic Energy Society of Japan Reactor Physics Division of American Nuclear Society Co-operation American Nuclear Society, OECD Nuclear Energy Agency and European Nuclear Society (expected) Organizer Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute Co-organizer Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation Topics ------ The following topics will be covered by the conference: * New or Improved Computational Methods (Nodal, Transport, Monte Carlo) * Advanced Software for Reactor Design and Management * Benchmark and Validation of Codes * Advanced Reactor Design (Fast and Thermal Reactors, Research Reactor, Any Reactor Closely-related with Fuel Cycle) * Experiment, Measurement and Analysis * Nuclear Data Utilization * Perturbation and Sensitivity Analysis * Pu Recycle * Fuel Management * Kinetics Method, Code and Experiment * Transient Analysis * Reactor Operation and Control * Criticality Safety * Transmutation * Pu Disposition * Artificial Intelligence and New Computer Architecture * Neutron Beam Utilization Paper and Proceedings --------------------- The program of the conference will include invited and contributed papers. Both oral and poster sessions will be scheduled. All papers presented at the conference will be published in the conference proceedings which will be distributed at the conference. The selection of contributed papers will be based on compact summary and will be reviewed by the International Program Committee. Details of paper presentation and summary deadline will be given in the second announcement. The official language of the conference is English. Registration and Conference Fee ------------------------------- A conference fee will be charged to all participants and the amount will be specified in the second announcement. A reduced fee for students will be determined and announced at the same time. Registration form for both the conference and hotel will be mailed with the second and third announcements. Accommodation ------------- Conference participants and their guests will stay at the Mito Plaza Hotel (the conference hotel) or in nearby hotel in the Mito city. Special room rates will be available. Location -------- The conference will be held at the Mito Plaza hotel in Mito city which is located 100km northeast of Tokyo, capital of Japan. Mito is the major city of Ibaraki prefecture, yet surrounded in abundance by natural beauty. Suburban garden, sun, wind, a broad expense of water that comes into view. There are several historical and art museums. In the area 10-20km from the city, major nuclear research centers (JAERI, PNC, etc.) of Japan are located. Nikko national park, famous of natural scenery and historic buildings, is within the distance of day trip. Technical Tour and Guest Programs ---------------------------------- Technical tour will be offered on Friday, September 20, 1996. * Nuclear Research Facilities in Tokai and Oarai Establishments of Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute * Oarai Engineering Center of Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation Several local culture tours around Mito city will be featured in the Spouse Program during the conference.
