The Second International Topical Meeting on Nuclear Applications of Accelerator Technology (AccApp=9298) is sponsored by the Accelerator Applications Technical Group of the American Nuclear Society (ANS), and is being hosted by the Oak Ridge-Knoxville, TN, USA Section of the ANS. It will be held in Gatlinburg, TN, USA during the week of September 20-23, 1998 at the Park Vista Hotel & Conference Center. The SARE-4/SATIF-4 meeting will be held the week of September 13-18, 1998 nearby (approximately 30 miles away) at the Knoxville Hyatt Regency Hotel the week before the AccApp'98 Meeting.
AccApp'98 will provide a forum for discussion of the uses of particle accelerator technology for nuclear applications. It will focus on production of neutrons and other particles, utilization of these particles for scientific or industrial purposes, production or destruction of radionuclides significant to energy, medicine, defense, or other endeavors, as well as imaging and diagnostics.
Papers are solicited in the following areas: Beam Interface Issues, Criticality Considerations, Design Optimizations, Energy Production, Instrumentation & Controls, Isotope Production / Transmutation, Industrial Applications, Imaging, Materials for Accelerator Applications, Medical Therapy, Neutronics Tools/Data, Remote Handling & Robotics, Shielding, Safety and Source Term, Systems Engineering / Integration, Structures, Target Engineering, Thermal Hydraulics, Thermal Shock, and Waste Management for Accelerator Systems. The preliminary list of sessions includes (but is not limited to): Neutronics, Target Design, Safety, Accelerator-based research in Europe, Accelerator/Target system I&C, Thermal-Hydraulics/Thermal Shock, Criticality considerations, Accelerator Production of Tritium (APT) Special Session, Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) Special Session, European Spallation Source (ESS)Special Session, International collaborative research, Materials Issues in Target Development, Waste transmutation, Medical/industrial applications, Remote handling/robotics, Moderators and cold sources, and Advanced concepts/general.
The Call For Papers with all relevant information and points of contact is attached to this email in MSWord format. The schedule calls for submission of up to 1500 word Summaries in English to the Technical Program Chair by April 15, 1998; Notification of authors about Summary acceptance/invitation of full papers by May 15, 1998; and Full papers in English due to the American Nuclear Society Headquarters by July 1, 1998.
