Validity of the intranuclear-cascade and evaporation model is discussed on the basis of disagreement between experimental and theoretical double differential cross sections of a high-energy Pb(p,xn) reaction. Evaporation model assumptions, the impulse approximation and some scattering processes neglected in the intranuclear cascade are investigated. The effect of these processes is confirmed through analysis with an exciton model, which reduces the disagreement to some extent, but does not thoroughly dissolve it. The introduction of some physical processes is thus required.
